Kinetic and fluid models for self-organized dynamics

Abstract:

Modeling self-organized dynamics such as a flock of birds or a school of fish has attracted a lot of attention over recent years. In this talk, we discuss how we can use kinetic and fluid models to describe such dynamics. The difficulty of this approach is to deal with non-conservative systems (e.g. momentum is not conserved). This difficulty will appear both in the derivation of fluid models and in the building of accurate numerical schemes.
