On circular flows: linear stability and damping

Abstract:

In this talk I discuss linear stability and damping with optimal decay rates around 2D Taylor-Couette flow and similar circular flows. Following recent work by Wei, Zhang, Zhao, I establish stability in weighted norms, which allow for an asymptotic singularity formation at the boundary. Additionally, I provide a description of the boundary layer solely in terms of the underlying flow and the Dirichlet data of the initial perturbation.
